Leactun
An interesting Somerset stone manor house with kitchen gardens, grounds, church and fabulous countryside views

Period features, kitchen gardens, unique interiors, fabulous kitchens, wonderful views. Located 5 miles from Castle Cary.
Leactun is an imposing stone 19th-century manor, set at the top of the valley with incredible views across the Somerset countryside. A unique property which has been lovingly and interestingly restored by its current owners. Almost everything in the house has been salvaged, up-cycled or recycled which gives it a very unique style, and makes it one of the most fascinating properties on our list.
Inside the house there are wonderful spaces over four floors with huge windows showcasing its incredible position in the landscape. The bedrooms range from one with a Moroccan feel, to a light loft with sloping ceilings, a platform bed under huge skylights, and interesting colours, spaces and furnishings throughout.
Each room is distinctly different and deeply quirky. The basement level is its own apartment with library and writing room, gorgeous bedroom and a huge kitchen with doors out to the garden. The main kitchen is an amazing large, light space with room for workshops, retreats and gatherings as well as being a magnificent space for photoshoots, particularly culinary brands would work well here. Bathrooms are both eclectic and traditional.
Outdoors, there are cottage type gardens with walled spaces and pretty trees and shrubs around the house. To the front of the house the two acre field has been planted as an amazing kitchen garden, growing all manner of vegetables, herbs, flowers and fruits – this dreamy edible forest garden with outdoor kitchen, kitchen garden with polytunnel, chicken house, a sheep paddock and a fairy dell would make an amazing space for any lifestyle, cooking, or countryside brands.
There is also a 12th-century, unmodernised church in the grounds.
Leactun would be a wonderful place for a shoot and stay, small retreat or workshop, or any brand that is looking for something absolutely unique.

History and special interest
In the war Leactun was commissioned as a Quaker school and retains the swimming pool and tennis courts and large lawns from this time (both are available for use by hirers of this venue).
The owners are keen conservationists and manage the land with a scythe and other hand tools along with a team of equally enthusiastic friends! The have keen interest in heritage and lost rural crafts.
